Then go to www.petfinder.com and do a search for a rescue based on the breed that was selected right for your situation.  You will find sometimes thousands of options from hundreds of shelters across the nation.   

Your pet will have already been spayed or neutered, have current shots, analyzed by professionals, and has most likely had some training time put in on basic commands as well as house training.
